SaverOne system automatically locates the mobile device in the driver’s area
A summary of the pilot produced by the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Transport said that the system was effective in improving road safety and did indeed prevent distracted driving while not interfering with any other system on the buses.
SaverOne aims to provide its system throughout all of the United Arab Emirates, beginning with the 900-strong public transportation fleet of Abu Dhabi.
The use of mobile phones is a major factor in car accidents in the UAE, causing over 27 percent of them in 2020, according to Abu Dhabi police. The Emirati government has implemented strict laws to combat phone use while driving, imposing fines, imprisonment and driver’s license confiscation.
The SaverOne system is designed for fleets of commercial and private vehicles seeking to reduce potential damages and costs; carmakers wishing to place safety solutions in their vehicles; as well as insurance and leasing companies. It is already in use in fleets in Israel, Europe, and the US.
“The successful demonstration of the SaverOne System on some of Abu Dhabi’s public buses is a very significant milestone for us in terms of our global expansion,” said SaverOne CEO Ori Gilboa.
“We look forward to expanding our partnership with Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre (part of the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Transport) and applaud their efforts in leveraging our unique and advanced technologies to improve road safety which will ultimately save lives in the country,” he said.
“Our system provides an effective solution to prevent today’s most significant causes of accidents: distracted driving due to phone use, and this early international partnership strongly grows our reach.”
